In 2006, clergy and lay leaders from seven different denominations founded and incorporated Flint Area Congregations Together as a vehicle to address issues of poverty, violence, inadequate education, blight, and other concerns facing Flint and the region. Flint Area Congregations Together is an affiliate of the PICO National Network. This general purposes grant will provide partial support as the organization pursues its goals and objectives.

While these accomplishments show the potential of the field, only recently are researchers developing a detailed understanding of the mechanisms through which education organizing accomplishes its goals. This research project will build on earlier research, including the Mott-funded eight site study of community-driven reform, with a focus on examining the processes critical to success or failure in education organizing.
